Kazakhstan: 5 militants, 2 troops die in clash (AP)

ALMATY, Kazakhstan ? Prosecutors in oil-rich Kazakhstan say five militants and two government troops have been killed in a clash outside the commercial capital, Almaty.

The Prosecutor General said in a statement Sunday that the fighting occurred after security services mounted an operation in Boraldai village to capture suspects in the murder of two policemen in Almaty last month.

Authorities in the ex-Soviet Central Asian nation didn't specify the affiliation of the suspects targeted late Saturday.

Kazakhstan has this year has seem an anomalous spike in attacks tied to radical organizations.

In November, a radical Islamist killed seven people, including five law enforcement officers, in a rampage in the southern city of Taraz.
